Why I love graphic novels for my kids
Graphic novels definitely count as reading a book. They’re a nice mix of a chapter book and a picture book, and the illustrations keep my kids engaged in and excited about reading.
For the record, both of my older kids (8 and 11) love all of these books but the top of the list is geared more toward middle grade to YA readers and the bottom half of the list is geared to a little younger audience (grades 1-3 or so).
All the titles are linked for you. Enjoy!

If you know of more I could add to this list, please share! If you’re looking for the ultimate list of picture books for kids, check this out.
I love this list! Thanks, Kim. There are some I haven’t read that we will definitely need to check out! One of our family favorites is the ZITA THE SPACEGIRL graphic novel series by Ben Hatke. My nephews also love his MIGHTY JACK graphic novel series. ALL of his books are amazing, so if you haven’t seen JULIA’S HOUSE FOR LOST CREATURES and its sequel (and a third coming out this fall!), check them out too!
Oh! Jake Parker has a great series too. Missile Mouse. and SKyheart, but that one I think isnt available anymore.
