We look forward to our family vacation in Park City every year. We stay at the Marriott’s Mountainside because it’s so family-friendly and close to everything. The hot tubs and heated pool are awesome. This year, because of COVID, they offered tons of in-room activities and crafts for kids since the kids’ center, The Mine, was closed. We tend to go in the off-season for the better pricing and this year there was hardly anyone else there with us so it felt like a true escape.
I love sharing our tips for staying in Park City with kids because we always appreciate it when people share theirs with us. When someone on Park City Main Street said, “You’re a local, right?” and asked me for directions, I knew I’d arrived. To be fair, I did live on Park City Main Street for a year during junior high. It’s felt like home to me since!
Here are a few things we love to do (and eat) there:
Food
Five Seeds: My friend who married my Aussi mate raved about this place and it did not disappoint. Owned by Aussies and the yummiest, freshest food I’ve had in a long time. Their chia pudding is SO GOOD.
St. Regis Terrace Cafe: On the slightly pricier side but such a beautiful atmosphere and view.
Harvest: Go there for breakfast. Delicious!
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory: A must. I get the Oreo caramel apple every time!
501 on Main: A good casual spot to eat. Their soup is great!
Cafe Terigo: We got tiramisu to go there and it was divine. We need to try dinner there next time.
Davanzas: We always choose this when we order carryout pizza for our hotel room.
Hikes
Quarry Trail: This was a new hike for us this year and the terrain and views were so pretty. We loved the sunflowers, trees, and moss along the way.
Trails behind St. Regis Deer Valley: If you head up to Deer Valley there are kid-friendly trails all over you can get to right from the resort. Just ask the concierge!
Bonanza’s Abandoned Mine Trail: This is one of our favorite PC trails! if you go in spring/summer, the sunflowers are beautiful.
Fun
Park City Museum: When I lived there this was just the old territorial jail, and now it’s a full-blown museum. It’s kind of fascinating to learn the history of Park City and what put it on the map. Spoiler alert: It was mining for silver! The jail in the basement is creepy and cool.
Dolly’s Bookstore: One of our favorite spots in the city (not surprising for this bookworm). We stopped here about five times during the week we were there to hunt for books, the store cat, Dolly, and get treats at the adjoining Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.
E-biking on Farm Trail: We did this for the first-ever time this year and it was so fun! There are e-bike stations all over the city and they’re so cheap. We took the ones across from Fresh Market and rode the Farm Trail past the white barn. it was gorgeous.
Exercising together (I use this app when I travel and love it): I know it’s geeky but we love working out together on vacation. We had the fitness center at our hotel to ourselves most mornings and it was so nice. I usually use this workout app when I travel and I love it.
Riding the Funicular at St. Regis Deer Valley: It’s free to ride the little gondola up to the St. Regis (our favorite hotel to use our Marriott points on for overnighters!) the kids were thrilled. We went on a little hike and ate brunch at the Terrace Cafe while we were up there.
Park City Library and dog park: Our dog-obsessed-but-deprived children beg to go to the dog park at the library every time we’re up there. The dog owners appreciate all the attention and fetch their pets get at the hands of our kids, and I stave off a puppy for another year. Then there’s the library (sigh). The kids’ section is so fun and I love browsing the shelves on the upper level. There’s even a little cafe inside!
Parks: Willow Creek Park and the City Park are both awesome.
