Let me tell you. Good Thanksgiving picture books are hard to find. Most of them are super cheesy or about a quirky turkey who tries to escape becoming a feast on Thanksgiving. I’ve been looking for the past couple of years for books that actually teach the story behind Thanksgiving and the value of gratitude in an engaging way. I’m very happy with this list! If you have others to add to it, please let me know!

I’m a few years late to the party, but I came here looking for more books to add to our collection, thank you! I’m adding Thanksgiving in the Woods to my cart now. And I would add “Thanksgiving in the White House” by Gary Hines is a favorite of ours — set in November of 1863, the year Abraham Lincoln officially declared Thanksgiving a national holiday, and told through his young son’s eyes. I love the seemingly silly premise (trying to save the turkey he had befriended) set to the heartbreaking backdrop of the Civil War and Lincoln’s many pardons.
Thanks for that recommendation, Lydia! That book sounds lovely.
